Unseasonably warm weather has impacted the logging industry in the Central Cariboo with road restrictions coming down weeks earlier than previous years, according to the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.
“We’ve had a lot of freeze thaws this season and the frost didn’t settle very far into the ground,” a ministry spokesperson told the Tribune.
Advanced notice of load restrictions went out Thursday night and came into effect just after midnight Friday, Feb. 13.
Drivers can check the ministry’s website for updated information on seasonal road restrictions as they could change depending on the weather, the ministry said.
Many companies have pulled their logging shifts off site and are hoping the cold weather forecasted will return to allow for a few more weeks in the woods.
