Wondering what to do for Family Day in Kelowna? Thee are loads of activities that span the weekend.
Parkinson Recreation Centre, is holding a family day weekend dance party with a DJ,dance lessons, and party games with plenty of prizes. The free family event is Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m.
There will be free skating, winter sport demonstrations and family soccer Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Capital News Centre, 4105 Gordon Dr. The Kelowna Speed Skating Club will have coaches available from 2 to 3 p.m. to give skating tips; people can try speed skates or use their own. The Kelowna Skating Club will have coaches on the leisure ice from 2 to 3 p.m. giving skating tips to children under six years old.
In West Kelowna, free public skating is taking place throughout the weekend at Jim Lind Arena.
There will be free skating and skate rentals and treats Saturday, from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
A parent and tot skate will be held Sunday from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. for children under six years old. Helmet use is mandatory and strollers are welcome. A free public skate will take place from 2:45 to 4 p.m.
On Monday, the dress-up princess and superhero skate to fight cancer will be held from 10 a.m. to noon. This is a charity event and admission is by donation. Proceeds support pediatric cancer research. There will be a free parent and tot skate Monday from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m.
In Lake Country, a free family skate is taking place at Winfield Arena from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Monday.
The Kelowna Art Gallery will have a variety of family-friendly activities, including tote-bag decorating, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost is just $5 per participant, and includes admission and a complimentary tour of the exhibitions at 1 or 3 p.m. The gallery is located at 1315 Water St.
The Kelowna Rockets host the Seattle Thunderbirds in a Western Hockey League Family Day matinee Monday at 2:05 p.m. at Prospera Place.
Family Day activities will also be at Big White Ski Resort all weekend, with visits from Family Channel stars.
On Saturday there will be a Spectacular Race event, which is an Amazing Race-style scavenger hunt around the ski resort. It will include challenges and Family Channel knowledge-based questions. This event takes place off the snow.
A lip sync battle will take place at 3 p.m. Saturday at the main stage in the village at Big White, hosted by Deepa Prashad from the Family Channel.
On Saturday night, a Family Channel Carnival and meet and greet with Cardinal Point, Aviva, Mckenzie Small, Josh Bogert and Deepa Prashad will take place from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Cruz the Blues will take place all day Saturday and Sunday. Skiers who ski all 38 blue runs will receive a Family Channel T-shirt and a chance to win prizes in Sunday’s prize ceremony.
On Sunday, a Family Channel concert will take place at 4 p.m.
