Remembrance Day

Friday, November 11 is Remembrance Day, and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #113 in Ashcroft is serving a pancake breakfast which includes sausages, eggs, and pancakes starting at 8:30 a.m.

The ceremony takes place at 10:45 at the cenotaph, and this year branch #113 is pleased to have their very own piper, who will take part in the ceremony. Attendees are invited back to the legion after the ceremony for hot rums and an opportunity to listen to the piper, who will be followed by music by Rose Wilde at 1 p.m. Chili, and beef on a bun, will also be available. Friday night dinner will be at 6:30, with stew and baking powder biscuits.

Solid waste input sought

The Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) is inviting applications from residents interested in sitting on the Regional Solid Waste Management and Resource Recovery plan’s public advisory committee (PAC).

Members of the PAC will provide general input and public perspective on all aspects of solid waste management considered as part of the plan review process; provide input into all stages of the RSWMRRP including, but not limited to, review of technical reports, and comment on draft versions of the RSWMRRP prepared by the consultant; and participate in the review of input received from the general public from questionnaires, open houses, and any other public forum or meeting conducted by the TNRD that may or may not involve the consultant.

It is anticipated this process will take approximately 18 months to two years, with meetings being held between four and six times per year commencing in January 2017. This is a volunteer committee, but travel expenses and meal allowances may be covered. The meetings will be held at the TNRD building on Victoria Street in Kamloops.

Anyone who would like to sit on the PAC is asked to fill out an expression of interest form at www.tnrd.ca. The deadline for applications is November 30, 2016.
