100 Mile RCMP responded to 100 complaints and calls for service during the past week.
Overall, it was a fairly quiet weekend despite the volume of traffic on the highways. There were two immediate roadside prohibitions issued for excessive speed and three for liquor consumption.
Erratic speeds
On May 21, 100 Mile RCMP observed a vehicle operating at erratic speeds on Highway 97 north of 100 Mile House.
The vehicle was pulled over and the female driver displayed signs of having consumed liquor. An approved screening device was administered at the roadside and the result was a fail.
The driver met the guidelines and was subsequently given a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition. The vehicle was towed and impounded for 30 days.
Long walk home
On May 19 on Highway 97 near Bullock Lake Road, 100 Mile Traffic Services observed a vehicle visibly exceeding the speed limit and passing other vehicles.
The driver was determined to be operating the vehicle in excess of 140 km/h. The vehicle was stopped and the driver, a Lower Mainland resident, was issued a violation ticket for excessive speed. The vehicle was impounded for seven days.
What’s a shoulder check?
On May 18, 100 Mile RCMP and 100 Mile Traffic Services responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 97 at Back Valley Road north of 100 Mile House.
The driver of a 2000 Toyota Sienna van had pulled over to the side of the southbound lane and then signalled and turned left across traffic.
The driver of a white Ford explorer also travelling south on Highway 97 went to pass the vehicle on the travelled portion, and swerved in an attempt to miss the van. A collision occurred in the southbound lane.
One occupant of the Ford Explorer was taken to hospital by ambulance for minor injuries. The driver of the Toyota van was issued a violation ticket for an improper turn at an intersection.
The investigation into this matter is continuing.
Prohibited driving
On May 17, 100 Mile RCMP conducted a vehicle stop on a black Dodge Ram pickup, and the driver of the vehicle was determined to be prohibited from driving. The driver was arrested and the vehicle impounded. The driver was issued an appearance notice for a court date in July. One charge of driving while prohibited under the Motor Vehicle Act has been recommended to Crown counsel.
