A Shuswap man has thrown his hat in the ring for the top executive posting with the B.C. Conservative party.
Tom Birch of Salmon Arm has announced he’ll seek the presidency at the party’s annual general meeting next month in Vernon.
“I believe that British Columbia needs the voice of the B.C. Conservative Party now more than ever,” said Birch. “Having considered how I might most effectively serve my party and my province, I believe that I could do that best as president.”
Birch, project manager for a Vancouver-based forestry software company, ran under the Conservative banner in May’s provincial election in the Shuswap riding.
Birch placed third behind Greg Kyllo (Liberals) and Steve Gunner (NDP).
“We have begun already to prepare for the next election,” said Birch. “This coming year, we will be setting the pace and direction. There are great things ahead for us and for British Columbia.”
The annual general meeting is slated for Sept. 13 and 14 at the Best Western Plus Vernon Lodge.
The party is in need of a new leader after John Cummins stepped down following the provincial election.
