The Cowichan Valley Regional District has extended the duration of the declaration of state of local emergency for the region as work continues to support affected residents.
A Level 1 regional Emergency Operations Centre is still active as CVRD staff work with member municipalities and First Nations to identify impacts of overland flooding and provide support to affected residents.
Flood-affected residents who have not yet sought support or identified themselves to CVRD staff are encouraged to call the CVRD Public Safety division at 250-746-2560.
There is still heavy precipitation in the forecast for eastern Vancouver Island over the next 36 hours, the CVRD warned Thursday night, and residents are encouraged to stay alert to weather updates.
Flood affected residents are reminded that Emergency Management BC is accepting applications for Disaster Financial Assistance for those with property-related losses that are not covered by insurance.
