Localized flooding risk in Fernie

The City has increased monitoring creek and steam levels in areas prone to localized flooding.

There is a risk of localized flooding in Fernie as unusually high temperatures speed up the spring melt and rain continues to fall across the region.

The City has increased monitoring creek and steam levels in areas prone to flooding.

Late Friday night, the B.C. Government River Forecast Centre issued a High Streamflow Advisory for the Interior, including Kootenay.

High streamflow is being observed in many river systems, including the Moyie River and mid-elevation tributaries in the Castlegar, Trail, Salmo, Creston, Cranbrook and surrounding areas.

Fernie residents concerned about flooding on their property can fill sandbags at the Public Works Yards across from TJs Auto Body, 1492 Railway Ave.

The station is signed, please bring your own shovel to fill bags.

All residents are reminded to exercise caution around fast-moving water.
