They’ve said it before and they’ll say it again: if you don’t want to lose your valuables, don’t leave them as thief bait in the back of your unattended car.
That was the message being put out to the community this week by RCMP Corporal Jesse Foreman as he once again reiterated his message about crime prevention.
“Despite the messaging from Citizens on Patrol and the Oceanside RCMP there continues to be smash and grabs from vehicles in the Oceanside area,” he said. “A recent rash of vehicle entries should remind us all that thieves are not hesitating to smash out a car window if they see wallets, sunglasses, Ipods or loose change.”
Rather than leaving them visible to tempt those with a bent for taking other people’s belongings, Foreman urged drivers to make the interior of their vehicle at least appear to be poor pickings.
“Please take your valuables with you and don’t leave any offering or incentive to those individuals without respect for your property,” he said.
Foreman noted that police will be out in force over the course of the upcoming summer sandcastle celebrations, with extra shifts readied for police bike, foot and car patrols at various troublesome hot spots in the area.
