Lockdown lifted at Bayside Middle School

Police were called to scene about potential person with weapon on school grounds

  • Mar. 1, 2018 12:00 a.m.

A police situation in Central Saanich that led to a lockdown at Bayside middle school in Brentwood Bay has been stabilized and students are being released.

Earlier this afternoon, students playing outside told teachers they saw a suspicious person on the school grounds with a possible weapon, according to the Central Saanich Police Department.

Officials at the school notified police at around 11:15 a.m. and the school enacted its hold and secure procedure.

The Brentwood Bay school posted a message on its website alerting parents to the situation, saying all students are safe and in the building. One student suffered a panic attack, but is conscious.

Members of the Central Saanich Police Department, the RCMP and the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team were still on scene searching the grounds as parents/guardians were directed to pick up their children in the school’s cafeteria.

Late Thursday afternoon police announced they had not located any suspects, and thanked parents who trusted officers to conduct their work and allowed them to take the time necessary to ensure everyone’s safety.

Check the Bayside middle school website for updates.
