Long-service medals and pins awarded at Qualicum Beach Legion

The Volunteer of the Year is Gil Hopkins; awards handed out April 13

On Sunday, April 13, Qualicum Beach Legion Branch #76 held its annual Honors and Awards Presentations.

The awards are presented to Legion members in recognition of meritorious or outstanding service to the Royal Canadian Legion. They include medals, awards, and certificates of merit and appreciation. Thirty-seven people were recognized this year:

Associate Member 25-Year Pin:   Carmen Forrest, Lilian Freeland, Shirley Gallop, Christine King, Gayle Ross.

Ordinary Member 25-Year Pin:  Norman Gould, Paul Smith.

Associate Member 30-Year Pin:  Paul Vandervoort.

Ordinary Member 30-Year Pin:  Michael Gariepy, Joseph MacDougall, Donald Nix.

Life Member 30-Year Pin: Peter Kyashko.

Associate Member 35-Year Pin: Geraldine Diack, Ronald West.

Ordinary Member 35-Year Pin:  Kenneth (Wayne) Rutter, George Shipley.

Life Member 35 Year Pin: Joan Wiese.

Ordinary Member 40-Year Pin: Ernest Ferguson, Louis Truesdale.

Ordinary Member 50-Year Medal and Pin: Donald Jones.

Ordinary Member 55-Year Bar and Pin: Robert Fraser, Robert Wilkinson.

Certificate of Appreciation: Robert Stevens, Karol Gariepy, Heather Sawa, Lorraine Russell.

Certificate of Merit: John Humphrey, Phil Spencer, Christine Ross, Jill Steff.
