Langford Fire Rescue dealt with a few calls during what was a quiet long weekend for most local fire departments.
Langford Fire Rescue Assistant Chief Scott Davidson said a multi-vehicle incident on the Trans-Canada Highway near West Shore Parkway on Monday sent multiple people to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Firefighters were able to move the vehicles quickly and kept traffic disruption to a minimum, Davidson said.
On Saturday, firefighters responded to a call for assistance from BC Ambulance and used a ground ladder to rescue a youth who fell from the rock face at McCallum and Leigh roads.
Langford Fire Rescue also dealt with a fire on the deck of a mobile home just off of Amy Road on Saturday as well. Damage was limited to several thousand dollars to the deck because an alert neighbour was able to keep the fire from spreading with his garden hose until firefighters arrived, Davison said.
Metchosin Fire Chief Stephanie Dunlop said it was a quiet weekend, other than a minor motor vehicle incident and a minor medical call. Highlands Volunteer Fire Department did not have any calls.
