Duane Round is running for the position of Area G (French Creek, Dashwood, Englishman River) Director for the Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) in the October municipal election.

Round has lived in Area G since 1995 and has been a resident of Oceanside since 1976.

Round has experience working with all levels of government and many different community groups, which he says gives him a good understanding of how working together gets things accomplished.

As Building Chair for both the Parksville Lions Seniors Housing (Hustwick Place) and Kingsley Low Income Housing (Kingsley Manor), Round brought together municipal, regional, provincial and federal governments. He obtained rezoning and financing for both projects and he supervised them to completion.

Both sites are now fully occupied providing affordable housing for seniors and adults with disabilities.

“I strongly believe it is very important that everyone knows that their voice is being heard and that issues are dealt with in a fair and timely manner,” Round said in a press release. “As Director of Area G, I will always listen to the citizens and act with their best interests in mind.”

Some issues Round will focus on are fiscal prudence, public safety, environmental sustainability, infrastructure improvements, delivery of service, and any other issues that are important to individual neighbourhoods throughout Area G.

Anyone wishing to speak to Round can contact him at duaneround@gmail.com.
