An informal community information fair is being co-hosted by the Cariboo Regional District, City of Williams Lake and Williams Lake Indian Band on Oct. 22, 2019.
The fair will provide residents the opportunity to stop by in a casual setting and meet with their elected officials and staff, along with other community partners, to discuss issues and gather information specific to their community.
Emily Epp, CRD communications manager, said the CRD normally does information fairs.
“We hold the events annually in the North, Centre and South and move them around to different communities,” Epp said. “The last one we had in the Central Cariboo was in McLeese Lake in 2015, and then we had some gap years because of staff turnover and wildfires. This is our last information fair for 2019, as we held one in Barlow Creek in May and one in Forest Grove in July.”
Epp said once the CRD decided to hold the fair in Williams Lake they decided to invite the City and WLIB to co-host it.
Representatives will be hosting information booths from various government ministries, services agencies and community groups such as the Cariboo Fire Centre, Community Futures Development Corporation, Williams Lake Seniors Activity Centre, Denisiqi Services Society, Dawson Road Maintenance, Horton Ventures – WorkBC, Interior Health, Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, Natural Resource Officers, Pet Safe Coalition Society, United Way, WildSafeBC, Women’s Contact Society and the Boys and Girls Club, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Williams Lake, Kidsport Williams Lake, Cariboo Chilcotin Development Centre, Williams Lake Fire Department, Ministry of Forests and Cariboo Chilcotin Conservation Society.
The City, CRD and WLIB will also have booths.
The event starts at 4:30 p.m. in the Gibraltar Room with a traditional T’exelcemc welcome; however, residents can drop by any time.
There will be a Lego building area set up for children provided by the CRD Williams Lake Library.
Attendees who collect signatures at 10 or more booths can enter the door prize to win gift certificates to local businesses and other giveaways.
“We have exciting prizes,” Epp said, noting there are two tickets to Studio Theatre’s upcoming dinner theatre, a $75 voucher for Love Williams Lake businesses and invidual passes for the Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex.
There will also be a cookie bouquet from Rhoda’s Sweet Delights, she added.
