Briefly from Qualicum Beach town council’s regular meeting Monday, Oct. 22:
• The bylaw that reduces development cost charges in the downtown core received fourth and final reading and became the law of the town.
• Council granted permission to the Qualicum Beach Farmers’Market to locate their Saturday, Nov. 24 market in the parking lot beside the old bus garage. The market’s usual location was occupied for a different event that day.
•The town’s no-smoking bylaw was passed. It states there shall be no smoking within 7.5 metres of a town-owned building’s doorway, window or air intake, or on any outdoor patio of a town-owned building.
• Council granted a development permit for a project on 231 Second Ave. West. The three-storey Sage Manor will have a total of five units – two rental units on each of the first two floors and one strata unit on the top floor. It was noted that this will be the first project to take advantage of the town’s new bylaw allowing for residential units on the ground floor of a housing development in the downtown core.
