SURREY — Want a view of what Surrey could look like with a LRT (light rail transit) system?

The vision for Surrey-Newton-Guildford LRT will be shared at three public open houses here next week.

Events are planned for Tuesday, Jan. 24 at Guildford rec centre, on Wednesday, Jan. 25 at Surrey City Hall atrium and on Thursday, Jan. 26 at Newton Cultural Centre. All sessions will run from 4 to 8 p.m.

The events are part of the city’s public consultation about Surrey-Newton-Guildford LRT, the first of two planned phases in what’s called the South of Fraser Rapid Transit Network.

“The project will provide street-oriented light rail transit along King George Boulevard and 104th Avenue, connecting Surrey City Centre, Newton and Guildford Town Centre with high-quality rapid transit,” the city says on its website as part of an open house advisory.

“The project will also introduce the first light rail transit system in British Columbia.”

The Surrey-Newton-Guildford route would include 10 kilometres of track, 11 stop locations and a new transit exchange built in Newton.

Initial funding for the project was secured last November. CLICK HERE to read about Translink’s 10-year Investment Plan.

“Beginning January 23, we want your input on how you think the project is coming along and what you want to learn more about,” event planners say. “Visit again to fill out an online survey. The deadline to submit feedback is February 13, 2017.”
