A new doctor is moving to Lumby.
Officials have been notified that a physician from Kelowna will set up practice in the village in August 2017.
“He has a young family and he is looking for a small community to raise his family,” said Mayor Kevin Acton. “He seems to really click with the community.”
This will lead to two physicians serving Lumby and Cherryville, as well as an area ranging from Lavington to Edgewood.
“I’m hoping this will give us adequate coverage for the short-term,” said Acton.
Locum coverage will be in place until the new doctor arrives.
As a way of helping attract the new doctor, the community is providing a moving allowance of up to $5,000.
“We can all relate to the expense of pulling up from one town to another,” said Acton.
