Lumby officials are continuing to hammer out a long-term strategy for roads, water, sewer, sidewalks and key facilities.
On Monday, council received information about the development of an infrastructure plan.
“Staff continues to update us on progress and we’re happy with the progress,” said Coun. Julie Pilon.
“Steps are being completed and the in-depth report still has to come to us.”
Pilon says while larger municipalities have the ability to increase taxes for infrastructure upgrades, small communities with largely residential tax bases struggle.
“We can’t tax people to the ying-yang so we need to find other ways for funding. We need to apply for (senior government) grants.”
As part of the process, some questions have surfaced as to why the asset management plan includes Regional District of North Okanagan facilities like the White Valley Community Centre.
“It’s because Lumby is a partner in those facilities,” said Mayor Kevin Acton, adding that the village pays the largest share of funds to operate the amenities.
“We want to be prepared for the future.”
