A North Okanagan RCMP officer escaped serious injury Sunday after he was involved in a single-vehicle rollover in a police truck.
The officer from the Lumby detachment was investigating a report of a possible impaired driver. He was 23 kilometres up Creighton Valley Road at about 10:30 p.m. when he failed to negotiate a corner.
“The truck went over an embankment and rolled, coming to rest near a tree approximately 15 feet from a lake,” said Vernon-North Okanagan RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk.
The officer was able to free himself from the police vehicle, described by Molendyk as a one-ton truck, and climb up the embankment.
He was taken to Vernon Jubilee Hospital to be checked out and for treatment of minor injuries. He has since been released from hospital.
The officer was on duty and alcohol is not considered to be a factor in the accident which is now under police investigation.
“One of our traffic reconstructionists is investigating,” said Molendyk.
