Mackie Lodge moves walkabout date for Langford council

Operators of seniors independent living facility to invite mayor and council in Nov. 17, two days after election

In the wake of a public complaint by non-incumbent candidates that their request to speak to residents at Alexander Mackie Lodge was denied, the operators of the independent living facility have moved their annual council walkabout to two days after the municipal election.

Micky Fleming, co-owner of Cherish Community Living, told the Gazette in an email that, “Given it is an election year we have chosen to move the date of our tour of the Mackie for the Mayor and Councillors to the 17th of November.”

Fleming reiterated the fact that no candidates for election in Langford have been invited to make a public speech at the Mackie.

A story in the Nov. 7 Gazette stated that candidates running under the Time for a Change banner had their request to speak to residents turned down because the board was supporting the incumbent candidates.

Fleming pointed out in a separate email that Coun. Lanny Seaton, who sits on the volunteer board of the Mackie, was not a part of the decision to decline the group’s request to speak to residents.
