Main Street Osoyoos redesign seeks public input

Topics for consideration include changing parking from angled to parallel

  • Aug. 31, 2021 12:00 a.m.

The Town of Osoyoos wants residents to share their thoughts on potential changes to the town centre, such as whether to change Main Street’s parking from angled to parallel.

Following the public consultation, further discussions with town council, the Ministry of Transportation and other community committees’, work on designs and concepts for the town centre will begin.

Additional considerations for the Main Street section beyond a change in the parking layout include street lighting, wider sidewalks and other pedestrian considerations, street furniture, trees and other landscaping, drainage improvements and accessibility improvements.

The sections currently being looked at stretches from Highway 97 to Lakeshore Drive, as well as from Park Place to the Bridge Deck.

Following the design phase, cost estimates will be drawn up along with recommendations on how to phase construction, after which a final report will be presented to town council.

That final report would then serve as a guiding document for the community for future redevelopments along the Main Street corridor.
