Shooting in east Maple Ridge shuts down major road

A shooting in east Maple Ridge has shut down a major road in both directions on Friday morning.

According to Insp. Martin Guay of the Ridge Meadows RCMP, officers responded to reports of shots fired near the Webster’s Corners neighbourhood at approximately 12:35 a.m. on Jan. 5.

“Police attended the scene and no one appears to have been injured during the incident,” said Guay.

“Police have secured the area and remain on scene this morning at Dewdney Trunk Road, which is closed between 248th Street and 256th Street.”

Access to Dewdney Trunk Road in this section is expected to be closed for quite some time, with commuters suggested to find alternative routes.

“Ridge Meadows RCMP Serious Crimes Unit (SCU) has conduct of the investigation and is still working to determine the motive of this incident,” said Insp. Guay.
