Malakwa students try on fire chief’s hat

Malakwa fire department welcomes fire chiefs for a day, prepares for Halloween party.

Malakwa fire chief Joanne Held poses with sisters Amber Petal and Sheala Riley. The two Malakwa Learning Academy students got to be fire chiefs for after winning a draw with their completed fire escape plan and smoke alarm survey. They won a carbon monoxide detector, a new smoke detector and other fire related goodies.

Halloween

The Malakwa Volunteer Fire Department will once again be hosting a fireworks event on Halloween night. The fun starts at the fire hall with hotdogs and hot chocolate for a donation at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 31. Fireworks will be set off at 8 p.m. The fire department has donation jars around town for the event. Last year, $1,600 raised went to the fireworks display.
