Male dies in North Surrey fire

A fire in Whalley early Sunday morning has claimed a life.

The Surrey Fire Service was called to a residence in the 10800-block of 132 Street for a fire burning in buildings in the backyard.

Surrey RCMP responded to assist at approximately 7 a.m., and a short time later, a deceased male was discovered in one of the buildings.

The B.C. Coroners Service was notified, and Surrey RCMP’s Major Crime Unit is investigating. Mounties interviewed witnesses and canvassed the area, seeking further information.

Cause of the fire or death have not been confirmed, and the identity of the deceased male is not known.
