The logging truck, which carried a loaded tandem, tipped over and lost its load coming across the Muir Creek bridge in Shirley heading eastbound on West Coast Road.

No other vehicles were involved.

After being pulled from the truck cab, which settled into a small canal beside the road, the driver was airlifted via Medivac from a nearby quarry to Victoria General with serious injuries.

Sooke RCMP Cpl. Dawn Gilhen said possible speeding charges are being considered.

“We are investigating speed as a factor,” she said, adding the investigation is still ongoing.

A mobile crane and a logging truck arrived later that afternoon to remove the vehicle and logs from the road.

Gilhen added the man’s condition is unchanged and that he remains in a coma.
