Man airlifted to hospital after Surrey crash

Driver and lone occupant struck a tree on 8 Avenue near 192 Street

A man remains in critical condition after being airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries Sunday following a single-vehicle collision in Surrey.

The 31-year-old driver had been travelling eastbound on 8 Avenue, near 192 Street, when his grey Toyota Yaris went off road and struck a tree, according to Surrey RCMP.

The man – the lone occupant of the car – was trapped in the vehicle until Surrey fire crews and ambulance attended the scene, extracting him from the car and transporting him to hospital.

As of Monday morning, the man remains in critical condition. His name has not been released.

Weather conditions and speed are being looked into as possible factors in the accident.

Surrey RCMP are seeking the public’s assistance and asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or observed the vehicle on 8 Avenue prior to the collision, to call police at 604-599-0502, or, to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
