Aided by the helpful watch of a Kelowna resident, Mounties arrested a man for possession of a stolen vehicle and took a prohibited weapon out of circulation, to boot.

On March 26 at 9:16 a.m., a West Kelowna Mountie on patrol, spotted a blue Chevrolet Tracker north bound on Carrington Road, which had been reported to police as stolen the day prior.

Extensive patrols of the area were conducted, unfortunately the vehicle had left the area. A short time later RCMP received a report of a suspicious person and vehicle on Boucherie Road with descriptions matching those observed by the investigator.

“Thanks to the vigilant resident, the officer arrived in the area and located his stolen Chevrolet Tracker and suspect who was arrested without incident,” said Const. Jesse O’Donaghey. “A search of the recovered stolen vehicle yielded multiple suspected stolen items, along with a set of brass knuckles, considered to be a prohibited weapon.”

The suspect, a 40-year-old man of no fixed address, faces potential charges of 2 counts of possession of property obtained by crime, 2 counts of fail to comply with a probation order, a count of possession of a prohibited weapon, and a count of possession of a controlled substance. He was remanded into police custody over the weekend and is expected to appear in Court today.
