An Abbotsford man has been charged for allegedly threatening to cause damage and to kill people with guns and bombs after a post of his was removed from Facebook.
Const. Ian MacDonald said the Abbotsford Police Department (APD) was contacted by Facebook employees just after noon on Thursday.
They indicated that on Wednesday, Facebook corporate offices in Menlo Park, Calif., received threatening messages from a user who was apparently upset over the removal of a post he had made.
The APD’s emergency response team, major crime unit, crime reduction unit and patrol officers then attended a residence in the 2500 block of Hill Tout Street, where they arrested a suspect without incident in a parking lot at about 6 p.m. on Thursday.
MacDonald said a search of the man’s home turned up eight cellphones and four computers, as well as drugs.
Jordon Richard Stallwood, 20, has now been charged with two counts of uttering threats and three counts of possession of a controlled substance.
Stallwood was previously charged in relation to a May 2017 incident in which he threatened the lives of West Vancouver police officers via Facebook.
He pleaded guilty in that case and was sentenced to one year of probation and a 10-year firearms ban, according to the provincial court database.
MacDonald said Facebook staff are still looking into how Stallwood’s most recent post was removed and whether it was by them or someone else.
“It was something in reference to his girlfriend … that he thought was a love poem,” MacDonald said.
Stallwood’s Facebook page no longer exists, and MacDonald said it was likely taken down by Facebook staff.
Anyone with information about the investigation is asked to contact the APD’s major crime unit at 604-859-5225.
