A 34-year-old West Kelowna man has been charged with a number of offences after weapons and drugs were found in a backpack during a court appearance this summer.
The Kelowna RCMP received a report of weapons at the Kelowna Law Courts located at 1355 Water Street, Aug. 28.
“A 34-year-old West Kelowna man attending for a court appearance had brought a backpack into the building but refused to allow the BC Sheriff Services to conduct a public safety search,” said Const. Kris Clark.
“The bag was later located abandoned on courthouse property and found to contain a small switch blade, a knife, a can of bear spray, an extendable baton, two multi-tools, 13.8 grams of marijuana, 14 grams of hash and three tablets of Hydromorph Contin along with a variety of drug paraphernalia.”
As a result of the investigation, Robert Thompson of West Kelowna was charged with Breach of Recognizance, 3 counts of Possession of a Prohibited Weapon and two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance. He is scheduled to appear in Court on Dec. 29.
