SURREY — Early morning rush hour traffic came to a standstill Wednesday near King George Boulevard and Highway 10 after a spectacular crash involving a cement pumper truck.

The driver was rushed to hospital with critical injuries.

“It was all over the place,” Surrey RCMP Cpl. Scotty Schumann said of the truck. “It’s amazing there wasn’t more tragedy associated with this incident.”

Police blocked traffic between 60th Avenue and Colebrook Road for hours along King George Highway as they investigated the crash.  “We don’t suspect impairment or speed as a factor at this point,” Schumann said.

The crash happened at 6:30 a.m. The southbound truck went out of control, crashed into an unoccupied bus stop, bounced into the other southbound lane, hit two cars, crashed the median into oncoming traffic and hit a lamp standard, then crossed back over the King George southbound lanes and landed in a ditch a ways down the hill.
