A 36-year-old man died after a fight on Saltspring Island early on April 22.
At approximately 4:20 a.m., Saltspring RCMP were called to a fight on Richard Flack Road.
When they arrived, police found the man unresponsive to CPR that was being performed by two other men, one of whom was suffering from non-life threatening injuries.
The officers continued CPR until paramedics arrived and all the men were transported to hospital by ambulance.
Shortly after arrival at the hospital, the one man was pronounced dead.
The Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia has been notified and are investigating if the actions or inactions of police are connected to the man’s death.
The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit is also conducting a concurrent investigation into the suspicious death.
At this time, police believe this is an isolated incident and there is no danger to the general public.
No charges have been laid in connection with the investigation.
No further information is being released by police at this time.
