A Skidegate resident had to be medevacced to Vancouver last week after a domestic assault left her with serious injuries, say Queen Charlotte RCMP. Police were called on Sunday, Aug. 26 and ended up executing a search warrant, said Const. Derrick Gladdish. A man was arrested and held in custody and has been charged with aggravated assault. He will be appearing in provincial court in September via video link. In other police news, RCMP are asking for help from the public to locate a Queen Charlotte icon. Const. Gladdish said the man was held in the detachment cells until he was sober. Just before midnight on Aug. 28, police were called about a vehicle abandoned in the middle of the street behind the courthouse, Const. Gladdish said. It looks like the vehicle had been parked and was taken by joyriders, who didn’t get very far. There were several intoxicated youth in the area, he said, who were given rides home. The RCMP have received several complaints in the past week about dirt bikers riding on the road in Queen Charlotte, Const. Gladdish said. Dirt bikes are not licenced for road use. “People in the public are getting frustrated,” he said. “We are receiving a lot of complaints.” Const. Gladdish advises people to call the RCMP if they see dirt bikes on the roads.
