An elderly South Asian man is clinging to life after being hit by a pick up truck.

At just after 9 a.m. Thursday, the 84-year-old man was crossing 96 Avenue. He was not at a marked crossing.

A red Ford 150 pickup truck was pulling out of a driveway and turning onto 96 Avenue when it struck the senior.

The senior suffered head injuries and is in hospital in life-threatening condition, police say.

Police are describing it as a “slow-speed” accident, and they note that drugs or alcohol are not believed to be factors.

The driver remained at the scene.

However,  police say it is too early in the investigation to say with certainty whether the 65-year-old driver of the truck will be charged.

Scott Road and 96 Avenue was shut down for about four hours while traffic investigators combed through the scene.
