A man was taken to hospital following a motor vehicle accident in Parksville on Saturday afternoon.

A man was taken to hospital following a motor vehicle accident in Parksville on Saturday afternoon.

An accident on the Island Highway (19A) in Parksville in front of Amrikko’s Grill on Saturday afternoon saw one man taken away by ambulance to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.

The man was moved from the car to a stretcher after what seemed like a lengthy exchange with emergency workers.

Manager/owner Mulu Silvey of Amrikko’s Grill in Parksville said she heard a second hand account that a woman was attempting to back up and move parking spots at the restaurant when a red car was about to pull into the restaurant parking lot from the highway.

The red car apparently saw the woman was backing up and stopped.

The red car was then apparently struck from behind by another car on the highway.

Silvey said she understood the injured man from the red car was a grandfather and was in the vehicle with his daughter and granddaughter. The B.C. Ambulance service said the man was taken to the hospital on a routine basis.
