The man who brought a shotgun to the Penticton Courthouse is banned from owning firearms for the rest of his life after he was sentenced in Kelowna.

Jessy Arthur Michaud, 48, pleaded guilty to possessing a shotgun without a licence or registration on Oct. 25 in the Kelowna Law Courts.

According to Dan McLaughlin, communications counsel for the Ministry of Justice and Attorney General, Michaud was sentenced to time served after remaining in custody for over a year.

Michaud was denied bail on Oct. 13, 2015 and initially faced 11 charges including carrying a concealed weapon, careless use and storage of a firearm and multiple breaches of probation.

The Western News learned in 2015 that Michaud was caught on Penticton Courthouse security footage entering the courthouse carrying a DeWalt toolkit that was later reported to contain a loaded shotgun.

Michaud was arrested at a Penticton hotel in August, 2015 after a warrant was issued in which police called him a “violent” man. Michaud also has a lengthy criminal record.

Michaud received 12 months probation and a lifetime firearms ban.
