A man who was shot in the parking lot of a Maple Ridge mall Monday evening has died.

Ridge Meadows RCMP have cordoned off a large area outside Thirfty Foods in Haney Place Mall as investigators arrive to collect evidence.

Witnesses heard shots fired around 8 p.m. near 119th Avenue and 226th Street.

One eye witness says the man was shot point-blank in the chest or stomach.

He was airlifted to hospital after paramedics tried to revive him on scene but has since died.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has taken charge of the investigation.

The age of the man is unknown at the moment.

Police will not confirm if they have a suspect or two in custody.
