Man recovering after apartment stabbing

NANAIMO – A 27-year-old woman has been arrested following a stabbing at a Nicol Street Apartment on Friday night.

A 27-year-old woman has been arrested for attempted murder following a Friday-night stabbing in south Nanaimo.

The Nanaimo RCMP say they responded to reports of a stabbing at an apartment on the 200 block of Nicol Street at 8:30 p.m. A 22-year-old man was suffering severe blood loss from a single stab wound to the chest and was airlifted to a Victoria hospital.

A 27-year-old woman was taken into custody for attempted murder.

“They were in a relationship … and for whatever reason a dispute took place and a weapon was produced and the male was stabbed,” said Const. Gary O’Brien, spokesman for the Nanaimo RCMP.

The man is reportedly recovering from his stab wounds. The woman has been remanded by her own consent until her court date Tuesday (Oct. 8) to face weapons charges. O’Brien said the attempted murder charge could change as a result of the investigation.
