Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has been called in to investigate a fatal shooting Monday evening in Maple Ridge.

Ridge Meadows RCMP called IHIT after a body was located in the Thornhill neighbourhood on Nov. 1, at approximately 6:40 p.m., said local Const. Julie Klaussner.

Mounties initially received several reports of shots fired in the area of the 25300-block of 102nd Avenue, she explained.

Officers arrived on scene to find a 57-year-old man, in a white GMC pickup truck, suffering from bullet wounds. The officers and EHS attempted life saving measures on the man, but he died at the scene.

On Tuesday afternoon, IHIT identified the victim of the shooting as Daniel William Delmark of Maple Ridge. He is not known to police and has no connections to the ongoing Lower Mainland gang conflict.

“We are still determining what transpired,” said Sgt. David Lee of IHIT. “What is confirmed is that Mr. Delmark was not known to police. It is extremely important that the friends of associates of Mr. Delmark reach out and contact us.”

IHIT is continuing to investigate with the assistance of Ridge Meadows RCMP, the Integrated Forensic Identification Section, and the BC Coroners Service. The scene has been secured but the investigation is still in its initial stages. Canvassing for witnesses and video surveillance is ongoing.

Homicide investigators are seeking video surveillance and dash cam video of any persons or vehicle in the area of Lougheed Hwy, 100 and 102 Avenue around 264th Street. The key times for footage is between 6 to 7 p.m. See IHIT’s map of the area.

Anyone who has information that could assist with the investigation, is asked to contact the IHIT information line at 1-877-551-4448, or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
