Man stabbed in uptown Port Alberni

Port Alberni RCMP say stabbing on Third Avenue on Thursday (Feb. 6/14) was no random act.

A 47-year-old man is recovering in a Victoria hospital from stab wounds after he was discovered on a sidewalk in the 3100-block of Third Avenue in Port Alberni, Thursday night (Feb. 6).

Port Alberni RCMP Const. Shelly Schedewitz said police believe the attack was not a random act, but are still investigating. No suspect has been named.

RCMP received a call at 8:10 p.m. that someone had been stabbed. The man was transported by ambulance to West Coast General Hospital then flown out for further medical attention, Schedewitz said. “Currently the man is stable and recovering from his injuries.”

Schedewitz declined to name the 47-year-old victim, saying she couldn’t comment on him. It is not known whether the man was known to police.

The forensic identification team was on scene at the Harbourview Apartments on Third Avenue on Friday morning, and there was police tape affixed to a post by a doorway. Schedewitz said RCMP are asking for anyone who may have witnessed the attack or has information about to call the local detachment at 250-723-2424 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-22-TIPS.
