Nanaimo RCMP hope surveillance video will help in identifying a suspect who stole from Woodgrove Centre before the mall opened on a Sunday earlier this month.

The thefts happened between 5:30-6 a.m. Nov. 4, though the video was made public today, Nov. 27.

According to a Nanaimo RCMP press release, the suspect stole 34 pairs of sunglasses and several phones from two separate kiosks. The sunglasses, including Prada and Burberry brands, were valued at $13,000.

“A universal key, which an employee recently lost may have been used to gain entry to the mall,” the press release notes, adding that bolt cutters were taken from a maintenance shop near the mall’s Walmart entrance.

At the time of the incident, the suspect was wearing a black shirt, black track pants, a balaclava and a backpack.
