THE MAN who disappeared from court here Feb. 1 while in the process of being sentenced for assault was back in front of a judge yesterday.
This time Clive Evans was ordered kept in custody and sent to the Prince George Regional Correctional Centre.
Evans left the court Feb. 1 during a break in sentencing deliberations for the August 2009 assault of Safeway manager Rob Morris.
Warrants were issued for his arrest and he was picked up by RCMP officers later that day and kept in custody.
Yesterday, duty counsel Bryan Crampton, who was standing in for defence lawyer Ken Anderson who was unavailable, asked for an adjournment until next week so Evans would have time to talk to Anderson.
Another court date was set for Feb. 7 and for Evans to appear by video from Prince George Regional Correctional Centre.
Evans kicked Morris in the knee while attempting to flee after shoplifting groceries from the store.
Morris was off work for a lengthy period of time and underwent two surgeries and extensive rehabilitation.
Evans was acquitted of a charge of assaulting an older lady when he ran past her and knocked her down in his attempt to flee Safeway.
There’s no indication yet of when Evans will be sentenced for the assault on Morris or what charges he may now face for vanishing from court Feb. 1.
