A 32-year-old Prince George man was taken into custody after police received several reports of a man with a knife near Orchard Park Mall last night.
On July 3, between 4 and 4:30 p.m., Kelowna RCMP received multiple reports of a man with a knife walking from Springfield Road near Ziprick Road toward the Orchard Park Mall.
Witnesses reported a series of events up until police made contact with the suspect at the Cooper Road entrance to The Bay store near the bus loop.
The man was observed to have a knife in his possession and police drew their sidearms and a conducted energy weapon in response to the elevated threat level.
Officers did not discharge either their sidearms nor the conducted energy weapon as the situation was successfully de-escalated through their communication with the man.
The suspect was taken into custody within a short time without further incident.
No injuries were reported in any of the incidents. The investigation is ongoing.
The 32-year-old Prince George man faces potential charges of mischief and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
The man was released on a promise to appear for court on Aug. 15.
