The reckless behaviour of a gun-toting visitor to Mount Douglas Park on Friday put a scare into Saanich residents and park visitors alike.

At 5:41 p.m. on Friday, the Saanich Police received a report of a man with a gun who had entered Mount Douglas Park. A hiker exiting the park with his dog reported that a male pointed a gun at his dog and then continued walking into the park.

The dog was not harmed and no other injuries were reported.

Saanich Police cordoned off the park at all entrances and conducted a search of the park and located the male suspect a short time later. The man was taken into police custody without incident.

The weapon was an air soft pistol (pellet gun). Neither the hiker nor the dog were injured during the incident.
