A local map for those interested in supporting local farmers appears to be proving popular.

The colourful, glossy pamphlets were launched June 30 at the Vernon Farmers’ Market and distributed to other markets as well as visitor information centres and other local businesses.

“The Vernon Farmers’ Market and the Coldstream Farmers’ Market are both advertised on the map this year,” Shayne Wright, Buy Local B.C. Initiative co-ordinator, told Coldstream council.

This year’s production saw an increase of prints, 10,000, as well as farms (up eight to 35 this year over last), for a total of 60 participants.

Plans call for continued growth, including an online version of the map for buylocalbc.org

“The maps have been well received,” said Wright, who also quotes Vernon Farmers’ Market organizer Ingrid Baron: “They are informative, colourful and easy to read.”

Local farms, civic governments and restaurants can purchase ad space on the map, which support the printing.
