Police are looking for the owner of this brass plaque.

Police are looking for the owner of this brass plaque.

Ridge Meadows RCMP need help finding the owner of a brass plaque that has been seized as possible stolen property.

On Oct. 18, an officer seized the small plaque from a man in the Hammond area of Maple Ridge.

“To date, we have not been able to locate the legal owner of this plaque,” said Cpl. Alanna Dunlop. “We would like to facilitate reuniting this small metal plaque to its rightful owner, as it may have sentimental value.”

The oval plaque which measures 4” X 3” has the words “USS Cape Cod”  and “AD-43” written on it.

Driver charged

A Maple Ridge senior was seriously injured after being hit by a SUV while crossing a street.

The 82-year-old woman was struck by a Jeep Wrangler on Brown Avenue at 224th Street around 12:20 p.m. Tuesday.

She was taken to hospital with what police say were “significant” injuries, but is expected to recover.

A 35-year-old woman who was driving the SUV was charged with a Motor Vehicle Act offence.

Break-in

A homeowner thwarted a break-in Tuesday afternoon by scaring away the thief before he could enter the house.

The owner heard noises around the property on River Road around 12:30 p.m. and saw a dark-coloured SUV in the driveway.

As a man kicked open the front door, the homeowner yelled. The shouting scared off the man, who ran back to the truck and drove away.

The suspect is described as white man in his 30s. He is 5-10 with a medium build, brown hair and a moustache.

He was wearing a red shirt, a tan-coloured vest and blue jeans. The truck was a smaller pickup, similar to a Ford Ranger and was either black or dark blue.

Cyclist struck

Ridge Meadows RCMP are looking for a grey GMC Envoy that hit a cyclist in Maple Ridge on Wednesday afternoon.

The accident happened on Lougheed Highway near the intersection of 222nd Street just before 4:30 p.m.   The 46-year-old man was knocked over after coming in contact with a SUV, which was turning south onto 222nd Street.

As the cyclist was getting up, he saw the GMC Envoy head towards the Haney bypass.

The cyclist was not seriously injured. Witnesses can call RCMP at 604-463-6251.

Car crash

A driver was charged under the Motor Vehicle Act after crashing into another car on Sunday in east Maple Ridge.

The crash took place around noon at the intersection of 240th Street and 112th Avenue.

The yellow Chevrolet Aveo collided with a black Ford F150 pickup truck, which resulted in the occupants of the Chevrolet being taken to hospital.

The driver of the pickup truck was not injured.

Two charges

Regular patrols by Ridge Meadows RCMP led to the arrest of two prolific offenders on Wednesday.

The crime reduction unit went to a home of 22-year-old man, who was bounded by a curfew, and found he was not home.

The man now faces a charge of breaching a court-ordered condition.

A short while later, the same officers noticed a car with an improper licence plate being driven in downtown Maple Ridge.

The car was stopped and police learned the 41-year-old man behind the wheel was prohibited from driving.

He was charged under the Motor Vehicle Act and the car was impounded.

Protect yourself

Ridge Meadows RCMP have noticed a spike in thefts from vehicles in the past month and are reminding drivers to remove items from their cars that attract thieves.

“Thieves will take anything that might bring them some quick cash,” said Cpl. Alanna Dunlop.

If possible, disable automatic trunk releases that are inside your vehicle to further secure any items inside.  Also pay attention to garage door remotes being left in a vehicle.

“Thieves will steal the remote, and possibly try to gain entry to your home,” said Dunlop.

RCMP also want to remind residents not to leave cars unattended to warm up.
