Maple Ridge rioter gets prison term

To be served on weekends mostly, Sunday to Tuesday

A Maple Ridge man has been sent to prison for his role in the Stanley Cup riot.

Andrew Glenn Cuthbert received a 90-day sentence Tuesday for a guilty plea to one count of participating in a riot.

According to Crown, Cuthbert, 21, was accused of helping destroy three vehicles during the June 15, 2011 rampage that erupted after the Vancouver Canucks lost Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals to the Boston Bruins.

Cuthbert will serve his sentence Sunday through Tuesday so he can keep his job.

He also received 12 months probation and must complete 60 hours of community service during the first 10 months of the probation order.

Cuthbert is one of five men from Maple Ridge to face charges for rioting. Thus far, four have been sentenced.

Connor Blair Epp received a three-month conditional sentence and nine-month probation order last October.

In February, Jordan Houde got a five-month conditional sentence and 12 months probation,

Michael David Anderson pleaded guilty to damaging two unmarked police vehicles and kicking in the windows of a pair of Nelson Street restaurants. In January, he received a three-month prison sentence, in addition to an 18-month probation order.

The fifth and final man awaiting his sentence is Jeff Ray Post, who intends to plead guilty to rioting and is schedule to appear in court for a pre-sentence report in May.

More than 40 convicted and sentenced rioters, including three from Maple Ridge, are being periodically monitored by the Integrated Riot Investigation Team to ensure they’re complying with probation or other conditions.

However, at least a quarter of Stanley Cup rioters convicted so far are ignoring court orders or failing to comply with probation, according to Vancouver Police.

Police have recommended charges against 315 rioters. Charges have been laid against 198, so far. Of those, 56 have been sentenced.
