Mark Strahl, Member of Parliament for Chilliwack—Hope would like to remind local organizations to apply for funding for community-based projects as part of the New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP) 2019-2020 call for proposals.

The New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP) is a federal grants and contributions program that supports projects that make a difference in the lives of seniors and their communities. Through the NHSP, the Government of Canada encourages seniors to share their knowledge, skills and experiences to the benefit of others.

“Seniors in Chilliwack and Hope have worked hard to support their families, build strong communities and grow our economy,” said Strahl.

“The New Horizons for Seniors Program strengthens Seniors’ connections with their communities so they can have the healthy, happy and secure life they have worked hard for.”

The objectives of the NHSP are:

n Promoting volunteerism among seniors;

n Engaging seniors in the community through mentoring of others;

n Expanding awareness of elder abuse, including financial abuse;

n Supporting social participation and inclusion of seniors; and

n Providing capital assistance for new and existing community projects and/or programs for seniors.
