The Wednesday Golden Farmers’ Markets have returned, with a full line up of vendors to sell their foods and wares.

The first Wednesday market was on June 13, and saw 25 full time vendors already confirmed. Each week, the market runs from 12 to 5 p.m. at the CP Rail parking lot across from 7-Eleven.

“We are in full tilt with preparing the market season and wrapping up the year end,” said Golden Farmers’ Market treasurer Caroline Tremblay.

While they are waiting on a few more confirmations, there are always vendors who participate in one-off or only a handful of markets throughout the season, said Tremblay.

“Again, there will be many farmers and gardeners selling their fresh produce along with bread and baked goods, honey, jewelry, woodcrafts, soap and beauty products, clothes, knitwear, and other crafts,” she said. “There will be some new vendors to discover, so it’s quite exciting.”

Wednesday markets will run until the end of September, as with previous years. The Saturday markets at Spirit Square will begin again the first weekend of next month, on July 7, and continue weekly from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

There are typically between 10 and 15 vendors who attend the Saturday markets weekly.

“There will be a variety of music this year, both at the Wednesday and Saturday markets,” Tremblay said. “We will have local bands and musicians, but also plan on having some buskers passing through.”

Next weekend is the annual Canada Day market on Sunday, July 1 on Main Street from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“This one is usually a very busy market, with a lot of regular vendors as well as many other ones coming for this one special event,” Tremblay said, adding that local band Smalltown Revival will provide music for the day.

The Golden Farmers’ Market was started in 2007, and has become a regular fixture for locals and travellers since then. The Saturday markets began five years ago, becoming a popular place to stop on the weekends during the summer season.

Additional markets are also occasionally held in other places like Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, and at sporting and community events.
