A stranger apparently took exception to a man’s decision to propose to his girlfriend inside a Langley antiques store over the weekend — so much so, that police had to be called.
On Saturday, during the Cranberry Festival in Fort Langley, a couple was at an antique store in Langley when the man got down on one knee to ask for the woman’s hand in marriage.
“The stranger took offense to the proposal being made in the store and words were exchanged,” said Langley RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Holly Largy.
During the confrontation, the stranger picked up a saw. That’s when the couple called 911.
According to police, the stranger never threatened the pair with the saw, but did give them a fright. The couple and the saw-wielding objector went their separate ways, said Largy.
“No arrests were made,” she said.
It’s believed the Abbotsford man did eventually get to ask for his girlfriend’s hand in marriage. It’s unclear why the stranger was upset by the proposal.
