Proceeds from a Giant Garage Sale will pay for wildlife treatment and recovery in the Comox Valley.
A variety of items and books are for sale at the family event where ambassador birds, face painting, music and food will entertain patrons.
MARS Wildlife Rescue is raising funds for a new hospital, recovery and rehabilitation facilities, but still needs to treat, feed and house injured and orphaned wildlife.
An emaciated swan, like those rescued recently, is tube fed two to three times each day at a cost of $5 per feeding.
Antibiotics can add another $8 to the feedings.
It can cost $8 daily to care for an emaciated barn owl, about $1 per mouse. The volunteer hours add up quickly, too. Springtime sees baby violet-green swallows fed by volunteers every 15 minutes for up to 21 days. Fawns need to be fed five times a day in the early stages of growth.
The giant garage sale is one of several fundraisers held by volunteers throughout the year to fund daily operations.
The sale is on Saturday, Feb. 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Big Yellow Hall in Merville on Hwy. 19a.
