Trail enthusiasts are thrilled with the results of last month’s donation matching campaign for the Okanagan Rail Trail and the generosity of local communities.

Late in September, seven generous trail supporters came forward offering to match donations received during October up to a total of $500,000.

Communities came through, and although final tallies are not yet available, the goal of $500,000 was exceeded, adding over $1 million in one month.

This brings the total to just over $1.8 million since the campaign began in May.

“The foundation for the October campaign was laid by seven donors who are committed to the vision of this legacy project,” said Brad Clements, trail ambassador.

“And it was the generosity of the over 700 donors that made the campaign a huge success.”

“The October campaign really came together as dozens of campaign partners and trail ambassadors encouraged their friends and family, co-workers, and colleagues to join in to meet the $500,000 target,” said Laurie Postill, Coldstream trail ambassador.

“During the month, challenges were issued, businesses and organizations got creative with fundraising, and the community responded.”

Funds raised this fall will go towards work that will make the corridor safer for users, and prepare for future stages of trail development.
